It must be time soon that the schools became in touch with the communities that they serve and allow boys skinny jeans. There should be a lot better relationships between us parents and the teaching staff unlike in our local school.
One of the main reasons in ours is that the new headmaster of the middle school has not lived in the area for very long. So he does not fully understand the way the the local people think.
On top of that he has an ingrained habit, as he is retired from the army, of treating the pupils like they were still his men. Of course some sort of discipline is very important in a school but it should not be taken too far.
Our son is growing up fast, as they all do, and we have to keep buying new clothes for him. It does not seem very long after we get him some new trousers until we can see his ankles. It won’t be too long before he can wear my husband’s clothes.
There is a school concert coming up soon at the end of term and we got a note from the headmaster saying that all the members of the choir have to be dressed in white shirts and black trousers. If they did not agree, they would be left out of the choir.
One additional bit of information in the letter was that boys black jeans would be accepted as long as they were not faded or too worn. That was fine but the parent teacher association had only a couple of years ago, held a fund raising event and purchased a set of special robes for the choir to wear.
Unfortunately the new headmaster did not like them because it made everyone look the same. I found it funny really that he had spent so much time in and army uniform the same as his colleagues, yet he objected to this. My son said that his dad had a pair of mens skinny jeans which fitted him perfectly so he was happy.
I thought that it should be taken a bit further though and rang the school. The phone was very hot that day, I spent ages trying to get through as, obviously, lots of other parents were upset as well. Eventually I abandoned the attempt.
My son sorted out his dad’s black jeans and found a nice white shirt and looked really smart.
The next day, he came home with another note saying that the robes were to be worn for the concert. Apparently the headmaster had changed his mind because of the pressure from all the parents on the telephone. If only the school had discussed it with the parents first and had decided whether it would be robes or boys skinny jeans, all the parent’s heartaches would have been avoided.
